Driver Michael McDowell of Front Row Motorsports Race Team (#34) and fellow team members shot sporting clays at the BSC last Saturday, June 8, 2019.

We finally got a halfway decent day to work on the access road to the new property on March 10th.  Lots of mud, crud, vines and sawdust, but the access road is taking shape just east of the main locked gate.

The diligent work of the following members is really appreciated: Mark Huddleston and his 14’ dump trailer, Diana Peacock, Floyd Pratt, Cheryl Trombley, Arnie Trombley, Mick Holmes, Denver Nichols, Ken Meyer and Terry Watts put in a full day of work and effort to get this job started.

The next project (hopefully weather permitting) will be scheduled for Sunday, March 31st and will begin the process of clearing land on the Monroe Street frontage.  Be sure to sign up for the next adventure!

First Annual Shop Rat Foundation Sporting Clay Shoot - May 19, 2018

Shop-Rat-Foundation

On May 19th, the first Annual Shop Rat Foundation sporting clay shoot was held at the club, with 17 teams participating representing manufacturing companies from across Michigan.  The Shop Rat Foundation is an after-school program that introduces middle school and high school students to careers in the manufacturing fields.  At the completion of their schooling, the students can apply for a job with the participating companies and step into a real well-paying job out of high school.

The event raised a lot of cash for the Foundation and the club received a generous stipend for hosting the event.  All participants were very enthused and impressed with our facility and sporting clay course.  We are looking forward to this event becoming an annual part of our outreach to support other 501-c3 organizations.

Wow, what a great turnout for the work party on Sunday April 29. 2018!   We had a total of 21 members who were in the mood to get things done at the club and they sure did.  From clearing the drive of invasive brush to allow for easier mowing, to repairing woodpecker holes in our cedar beams, this crew was on it.  Here’s a list of the projects completed by location.

Club House Completed:  cleaned exterior lights, repaired woodpecker holes, put new woodpecker barriers up, phone lines buried, cleaned interior light panels, cleaned leaves around building, foam barrier for rodent control.

Kitchen Completed:  Pop cooler completely cleaned and organized, Refrigerator washed in and out and organized, Ice maker washed outside, Freezer washed outside, Range hood washed and filters cleaned,

Club Grounds Completed:  Cut and chipped brush along drive, removed trees, built 2 new BEAUTIFUL sporting clay stands, moved picnic table for kitchen use and moved stands to sporting clay course.

Club House Pending:  Clean porch, clean grills on patio and range, pressure wash building.

Kitchen Pending:  Raise stove 3’, clean and organize cupboards, clean hot dog maker, clean coffee makers, wipe down walls, empty all pantry shelves and wipe down, cupboards emptied and wash, wash hot pads, fix knife drawer glide.

Club Grounds Pending:  Trim tree limbs to 8’ height around perimeter of grounds for mowing, canoe launch dock trim and remove brush, remove limbs around fences, complete clearing east end of main drive and removing the brush piles that are on the north property line.

Again, a tremendous thank you to the following members:  Arnold and Cheryl Trombley, Ken Meyer, Ryan Wyse, Curt Hanselman, Mark Weiss, Walt Paegel, Denver Nichols, Mike Luty, Phil Davis, Marcy Jankovich, Kevin Comar, Roger Fitch, Mike Warden, Dave Lakin, Gene Fite, Bill Rathbun, Pam and Jason Herzog

Without the time and commitment given by our members, the club grounds could never be maintained.  We will be having another work party in early May to try to get completely caught up and get the place in top notch condition.

Carmi McRoberts and Mike Lute finish up station three Sporting Clay elevated stand. We also appreciate what Curt Hanselman did with the Rifle Range stand.  Remember, the BSC Spring Spruce-up is happening in April.  Stay tuned for the dates.
